Bealtaine 2012

‘Faces of Sligo Town’ Photographic Exhibition
By Photographer James Fraher,
Hawk’s Well Theatre, Temple St Sligo

‘Faces of Sligo Town’ is a commissioned photographic project by Sligo Arts Service, Sligo County Council for the Bealtaine Festival 2012. The work is based on Sligo town shops and the people who run them. The theme of the project celebrates the generational link in family run shops which, over the years, continue to give character and a face to our streets. Twenty premises from barber, jewellery, sweet to clothing shops took part in the project over a three month period. Running alongside the Exhibition in the Hawk’s Well Theatre is a photographic window exhibition; project shops will display a A2 photographic work .This is part of ‘Sligoe 400’, celebrating Four Hundred Years of the Borough of Sligo.
As you walk around town over the next month keep an eye out and see if you can spot all twenty premises.
The Exhibition runs till May 31st.

Submissions Wanted for A photo-book anthology celebrating mid-life in poetry, stories and visual art

A group of women has come together to compile an anthology of celebration and positive imaging in praise of women in mid-life - those who often find themselves with evolving family responsibilities, roles and dynamics.
Many such women have changing work commitments or are facing redundancy, retirement or even having to go back to work due to financial pressure. They could also be dealing with endings or beginnings of relationships, illness or death among friends or relatives, and their own physical or emotional health issues.

We are looking for submissions of poetry, stories and photographs of all forms of visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, sketches, cartoons, photographs) which celebrate positively in the face of such challenges.

These submissions are from, or relating to, women in the mid-40s to mid-60s, in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan. See www.mid-lifeslices.com  for more details. The profits from this book will go to: The Sligo Cancer Support Centre
