The Urban Knitting project is part of Sligo Arts Service, Sligo County Council Arts in Health creative programme. The Knitting project linked with the Craftfest Northwest festival to celebrate and explore the traditional craft of knitting as a contemporary visual art form.
Over 200 people participated in this project, groups of children and older people came together in artist lead workshops. The groups involved were Maugherow, Clasp and Gurteen Active Age, 5&6th class students from Rathcormac National School, Killavil National School, Killavil older community ,Keash National School, PLC Art & Design students, Nazareth Care Village older community, transition year students Ursuline College ‘Unwind’ Knit & Crochet group, The Avalon ‘Tuesday Afternoon’ older group and individuals from the community.
